OK, the last time we checked, the Black Entertainment Television Awards was held annually to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in the entertainment field.
It doesn't matter if you're black or white
So, how did Justin Bieber get a nomination here when he is clearly not African American? And no, this is not a joke people. He is nominated for Best New Artist. Other artistes nominated for the 2010 BET Awards are Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys and Drake. But back to the question of why he is among those nominated, this is what Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials said: “Justin has crossed the colour boundaries the same way hip-hop has crossed the boundaries the other way for a number of years. He’s had rhythm in his music. He makes the type of music our audience (African-Americans) likes.” Hmmm... Oh and while we’re on the subject of Justin, Beliebers should tune in for the American Idol results show this week (tonight on Star World and tomorrow on 8TV) as the baby-faced star performs two songs, You Smile and Baby and shows off his drumming skills. |
